Ohana Prayer 14 – Mark 10

Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight

46  Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging.

47  When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

48  Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

49  Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So, they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.”

50  Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

51  “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”

52  “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

Thank you, Lord, Your word is the lamp unto our feet and the light unto our path. When we are awake before dawn, not able to see what is in front of us, we feel just like a disoriented blind person. Similarly, we are faced with a virus hidden in a picture painted it black. There is no specific antiviral treatment for COVID 19 currently. Scientists are just as lost as the blind man in search for a cure or protection against this virus.

We wonder if today would be another seemingly helpless day or a routine ordinary day. Thank you for reminding us that Sunday is the day that the Lord has made and today is Palm Sunday which we celebrate in remembrance of the big day when Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem.

Holy spirit please help us to siege this fortuitous opportunity to boldly invite family members to worship together online at home in welcoming Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

Lord, give us courage so we have no excuses to delay further to plead to you from the bottom of our heart the way the blind man begged Jesus to give him sight: “Father, have mercy on us, save the city.” May we hear Your answer whispered through the spirit telling us “Rest assure, the Lord heard your petition.”

In Jesus’ holy name we pray. Amen, amen, and amen again.
