Ohana Prayer 207 – Proverbs 20
1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
2 A king’s wrath strikes terror like the roar of a lion; those who anger him forfeit their lives.
3 It is to one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.
4 Sluggards do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing.
13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare.
20 If someone curses their father or mother, their lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness.
22 Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the LORD, and he will avenge you.
23 The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales do not please him.
29 The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old.
Our heavenly Father who is seated on the throne with righteousness and sovereignty, you are the Lord of all. You are completely holy. You do not leave the guilty unpunished and will pursue the sins of the evildoer. However, you only send your wrath on all ungodly people, those who do injustice and hinder the truth.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” You are a forgiving, gracious, and compassionate God and you will never abandon us. You are slow to anger and abounding in love. As far as the east is from the west, so far have you removed our transgressions from us. We are in awe of you. We come to you and pray for forgiveness of our sins because we know when we are willing to refrain from immature arguments, verbal abuse and the perverse treacherous schemes of man, you will not repay us according to our iniquities. “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is your love for those who fear you.”
Lord Jesus, thank you for your company, day and night. Thank you for granting us a good night’s sleep. You value our wisdom and stature, including our physical health. Only by having enough sleep can we think clearly and have a lively spirit.
Lord Jesus, we trust you. In our relationship with each other, may we have the same mindset as you. May we practice the truth with a loving heart, guard our words and actions with purity and live out the life of a mature Christian. Help us remain diligent in all works, big or small; using your loyalty and perseverance as example. Help us not to develop a self-righteous mentality, use excuses to cover up our laziness and ignore your commands so that we will not suffer consequences of our sins and have to beg for your mercy.
Holy Spirit, please root our hearts and minds in your words and truth; in order that we can bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Help us not to walk in scorn, strife or dispute but overcome our selfish desires. Otherwise our future will be like a ruined city with fallen walls, filled with debris or like an extinguished lamp, with only darkness ahead of us.
Holy Spirit, encourage us to remain good and righteous, especially when we are in panic amidst the global pandemic. Help us to entrust all the grievances and bitterness in our hearts to Jehovah and not to repay evil with evil or insult with insult. Instead, let us repay evil with blessing, because to this we were called so that we may inherit a blessing. Open our eyes to see those who are hungry and give them food. Open our ears to hear people’s thirsty cries, so we can give them water. In doing this, we will heap burning coals on their heads and the Lord will reward us. Sincere prayer is in the holy name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
