Ohana Prayer 191 – Proverbs 2

1 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,

5  then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

6  For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

7  He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,

8 for He guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.

20  Thus you will walk in the ways of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous.

21  For the upright will live in the land, and the blameless will remain in it;

Thanks be to the Lord our father in heaven. We praise you. What are we human beings that you value us, care about us, and sympathize with our weaknesses? Living under such tremendous grace, how can we despise the precious oracles you have so bestowed upon us? Trusting your precious promises and not asking for blessings to fill up our limited baggage as sojourners, we are striving to understand and be enlightened by your will, in order that we can keep to the path of goodness, without deviating from righteousness and become a living testimony to glorify and honor God.

As the Lord Jesus who came to save the world, you not only gave us the hope of eternal life, you also left us righteous footsteps to follow so we can mature in wisdom and stature, finding favor in God’s eyes and in fellow men. In the past few months, in the face of persistent suffering and pandemic, the lives of all people have been turned upside down and the future seemed ruined. You have cleared the darkness away from us. Every morning you teach us to listen quietly, like the educated and grant us the tongue of the educated. Using your love to embrace all things, we learn how to be compassionate towards each other, have mercy onto each other, support the weak with comforting words, lend a helping hand to the poor and helpless. It is because love covers over a multitude of sins.

Holy Spirit, please come and enlighten my heart, the source of my being. The ending of all things has moved a step closer. Please lead us to grow in the truth and no longer be infants. By feeding on the teaching in Proverbs, we can discern good and evil, see through temptations, live a life of self-control with integrity. Holy Spirit, help us to stay away from perverse thoughts and words, get rid of the mentality of dissatisfaction and resentment. So we can once again act justly, watch and pray, serve each other, and be good stewards of God’s various gifts.

We pray in the holy name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen!
