Ohana Prayer 190 – Proverbs 1

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools [c]  despise wisdom and instruction.

8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

9  They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

19  Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it.

27  when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.

33  but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

Praise to the Holy God who rules over the universe! Our Heavenly Father, thank you for granting us a night of rest so we can settle our emotions. Our hearts are now at peace. In this quiet morning, with a worshiping attitude, we approach your throne in awe. Bowing down at your feet, we offer our heart and soul to you, awaiting your gift of wisdom so that we can begin the day afresh.

Dear Jesus Christ our Lord, you humbled yourself and came down into the world in the form of flesh. Please cleanse our hearts again with your precious blood and we welcome you to live in our hearts. Because of the assurance of your omnipresence, we are not afraid of the unrelenting pandemic. Because of your omniscient guidance, we don’t turn to our own way for the sake of wealth, personal gains and losses, and self-righteousness; we firmly believe that every step we take in your will, whether to the left or the right, will hear your assuring affirmation: “This is the right way, abide by me, and you will never misjudge the way forward.” Amidst the current social unrest, natural disasters and personal suffering, we can still maintain a worshiping heart, all because we know that we are secure under your omnipotent protection.

Holy Spirit, you give fools wisdom and teach the young knowledge. We come to take refuge in you. We pray for guidance in everything we do, staying alert always in order not to become conceited and lost. Holy Spirit, please come and adjust our mentality, and show us not to exhaust our efforts in vain; so that we can avoid using devious deeds to serve our selfish wants of this world. Holy Spirit, please open our minds to understand your teaching and laws in Proverbs, so that we can live with peace and courage even in the face of trials and difficulties. May our lives be pleasing in God’s eyes, fulfilling his perfect plan for us.

We pray all these in the name of Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen.
